Who We Are & What We Do
Our Mission and Purpose:
The Queen of Heaven Council 4572 was started in 1958 and provides Catholic men with opportunities to join a fraternity to deepen their faith in Jesus Christ and to put their faith into action by serving the Church and those in need in our community with Charitable donations.
Our Organization:
The council organization consist of elected officers, appointed directors, and members. The Grand Knight is elected and presides over meetings and appoints directors and committees as needed. Other elected officers include Deputy Grand Knight, Treasurer, Financial Secretary, Chancellor, and others. Our Chaplain serves as spiritual advisor to the Brother Knights and to the council.
Our Meetings:
Meetings are open to all Knights and invited guests. We meet on Mondays at 7:00 pm in Breen Hall. There are two types of meetings:
- Business Meetings - the 1st and 3rd Mondays - These meetings begin at 7:00 pm and usually last an hour or less and the format is prescribed and allows us to discuss the business of running the council, make decisions etc. The meeting on the 3rd Monday begins at 6:45 pm with the council leading the parish in saying a rosary for the unborn.
- Social Meetings - the 2nd and 4th Mondays are social meetings with dinner, refreshments, and some social activity. Weather permitting, our council has been enjoying friendly corn hole games starting at 6:00 pm with dinner being served at 7:00 pm. One or two Knights will volunteer to be responsible for serving dinner, and beer and wine are available at those meetings as well. In the event of a 5th Monday in a month, the council will sometimes have a family social. Members are encouraged to bring wives, children and grandchildren to these events.
Vocations Sunday Mass - A special opportunity to serve Christ and His Church is participating in the Mass for Vocations which is celebrated the 3rd Sunday of each month at the 9:30 am Mass. At this Mass, Brother Knights serve in all liturgical roles including Ushers, Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers and Choir. This is an opportunity to be visible within the parish and to show the commitment of the Knights to Sacramental life. For those wishing to sing in the choir, the music ministry requires practicing with the choir at the choir practice on the Wednesday preceding the Sunday liturgy.
Opportunities to get involved:
Other than attending the above mentioned meetings, Council 4572 provides other ways to get involved.
Programs - There are four main program areas that are responsible for putting together meaningful ways for the council to help our Church and Community. The four Programs are:
- Faith - Putting together Faith program activities for the brothers and the parish. Examples include Jacob's Crossing, First Friday services, Rosary for the unborn, adoration and others.
- Family - Providing opportunities for the Council to serve families of the parish. Included in this would be the family socials or cooking for the parish picnic.
- Community - The community director is responsible for external programs to help the community such as assisting in the St. Therese food bank, blood drives and the like.
- Culture of Life - As a strong pro-life organization, this program director puts together ways to serve the unborn and newborn children and their families through support of New Hope Pregnancy Care Center as well as supporting the Walk for Life.
Butt Roast Barbecue - The council raises funds for our charitable work with a few
concentrated fundraising activities. Twice a year we cook and sell barbecue pork shoulder. This is done for Labor Day weekend and for the Super Bowl. The Knights prepare, cook, pack as well as advertise and sell this delicious barbeque.
Golf Tournament - Each spring, we host a charity golf tournament. The next tournament will be held Friday, May 3rd, 2024. Members can assist the tournament by soliciting teams and sponsors, as well as putting together a team, or assisting the golf tournament committee in putting on the event.
Three Kings Feast - The first Saturday of December is a big day for the parish as we provide a charitable meal for those in need in our community. The Knights do all the cooking for this event which serves over 700 meals to people in need in Bradley County.
Parish Picnic - The council serves the parish by cooking for the parish picnic in October.
Insurance - The Knights of columbus was started to protect families in the 1880's by providing a safety net for families who would be torn apart due to the loss of a primary breadwinner (usually the father). The Knights of Columbus Insurance program is among the most solidly run in the country and only invests in companies that are in line with Catholic moral teaching. Participation is optional but is only available to
Knights.

How Much Does it Cost to be a Knight? - The annual dues are $36.00
How do you become a Knight? What is the process?
Step 1
Option 1 - Fill out a paper membership application (form 100). These are available from any active Knight, and can also be found in the vestibule of the church to the right of the main doors as you exit. After filling out the required fields, place the form in the Knights of Columbus mailbox by the church office door, or give it to a brother Knight.
Option 2 - Scan the QR Code below or Click Here and join online.
Step 2 - You will be asked to meet briefly with the membership committee. These meetings are usually held prior to a business or social meeting, and the intent is for the committee to verify that you are a practicing Catholic man and to get a little background of where you are on your faith journey.
Step 3 - The Exemplification Ceremony. There will be a ceremony to welcome you into the Knights of Columbus. This is usually done after a Sunday Mass in the church or the sanctuary. The Financial Secretary or Grand Knight will contact you to check your availability. After Exemplification, you will receive a name badge and be welcome at all Knights of Columbus events.
If you have any questions, you can call Grand Knight Brendan Foley at 423-544-8578, or speak with any brother Knight.
